The Ugly

  • Projector
    • The projector is currently at year 8 of a 10 year “useful life”. The Christie Solaria One was last manufactured in 2015. In two more years BDT will no longer be able to get replacement part
    • Small replacement projectors for The Backdoor Theatre start costing $28,000
  • Integrated Media Block (IMB)
    • The IMB is one lighting strike away from failing.
    • The IMB is a critical component of the projection system. It is now End of Support and will need to be replace if we have a failure
    • As explained in “The Bad” section, there is a battery that can not be replaced and if it fails the system is useless.
    • BDT is now forced to run the system 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.
    • Modern IMB media solutions to replace the current Christie IMB have a starting cost of $6,000
  • Personal Protect for Theatre
    • Point of Sales (PoS) system will allow for contactless sales.
      • Starting PoS systems for small theatres have a starting cost of $5,000
    • Installation of Plexiglass on concession
    • Signage to direction
    • Blocking out of seats for social distancing
  • The Movie Industry has changed in some ways but not in others
    • Changed
      • Streaming – Movie companies are focusing on streaming delivery of movie content right to the home. Fewer people are likely to come out to the theatre
      • COVID-19 policies have theatres generally restricted to 50% capacity
    • Not Changed
      • Companies still demand the majority of the ticket revenue to the movie house.
